Retractable banner size and design tips

The standard retractable banner stand takes a graphic about 33 × 81 inches (roughly 85 × 200 cm); smaller tabletop and mini stands are around 24 × 63 inches. Put your name and main message in the top third at eye level, keep the bottom few inches free of anything important, and use big text people can read from across a room.

Stand makers vary, and some need extra length at the bottom that rolls into the base. Always check the exact graphic size with your printer or stand supplier.

Lay it out top to bottom

  • Top third (eye level, about 5 to 6.5 feet from the floor): logo, business name and one headline that says what you do.
  • Middle: a large photo or three short points, such as services, products or an offer.
  • Lower third: website, QR code and phone number. People walking up close read this part.
  • Bottom 6–8 inches: background only. It's near the floor and often hidden by the base, a table or people standing in front.

Text that reads across a room

  • Headline: as big as fits, usually 3–5 inches tall letters on a standard stand.
  • Supporting points: at least about 1.5–2 inches tall.
  • No paragraphs. If it takes more than a few seconds to read, cut it.
  • Strong contrast and one or two brand colours.

Print file tips

  • Large banners are seen from a distance, so printers often accept 100–150 pixels per inch at full size; ask yours.
  • Use your logo as a vector (SVG) or a large PNG; small web logos look blurry this big.
  • Ask about material: polyester fabric or vinyl, and whether they include the stand and carry bag.

Making it in CatalogProFlow

  • Open an event display template: bold, classic, event, offer, services, menu, photo and step designs.
  • Pick the 33 × 81 in stand or the 24 × 63 in tabletop size; Resize copies a finished design to the other one.
  • Swap in your logo, headline and photo, keeping the layout's top-to-bottom order.
  • Download the print-ready PDF for any printer, or order stands where our print partners offer them.

Before the event

  • Set the stand up once at the office to check the graphic and that every part is in the bag.
  • Keep the stand out of direct sun and away from heaters when stored.
  • Bring tape, a small step stool for adjusting the pole, and a spare power strip if you have screens.

Questions

What is the standard retractable banner size?
33 × 81 inches (about 84 × 206 cm) is the most common in the US. Many metric stands use 85 × 200 cm.
Where should the logo go on a roll-up banner?
In the top third, at about eye level, so people see it over tables and crowds.
What should I leave off the bottom of a retractable banner?
Anything important. The bottom 6–8 inches sit near the floor and are often hidden by the base or a table.
Are retractable banners and pull-up banners the same?
Yes. Retractable, roll-up and pull-up banners are names for the same stand: the graphic rolls into the base.
What file should I send for a retractable banner?
A PDF at the exact graphic size your printer gives you, with your logo as a vector or large image. Ask whether they need bleed or extra length for the base.
How long do retractable banners last?
With care, a stand and graphic last for many events. Swapping in a new graphic is often possible with the same stand; ask your printer.
